Our selection process is not a simple checklist; it is a comprehensive, ongoing evaluation designed to ensure every liveaboard, resort, guide, and logistical partner meets the pinnacle of excellence. This methodology is our commitment to you, guaranteeing that our recommendations are trustworthy, reliable, and represent the absolute best of Raja Ampat.

The Four Pillars of Evaluation

Every potential partner is assessed against a proprietary scoring rubric based on four critical pillars. A partner must not only pass but excel in all categories to be included in our curated portfolio.

1. Safety & Regulatory Compliance (Weight: 40%)

This is our most important criterion. There is no compromise on safety.

  • Licensing & Insurance: Verification of a valid Surat Izin Usaha Pariwisata (SIUP), vessel registration, and full liability insurance. We also confirm all crew are covered by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.
  • Maritime Safety Standards: On-site inspection of safety equipment, including life rafts, EPIRBs, satellite phones, DAN-compliant oxygen kits, and AEDs. We review maintenance logs and crew certification records (e.g., STCW).
  • Emergency Protocols: Detailed review of documented emergency action plans, including procedures for medical evacuation to Sorong or Makassar and communication with local authorities (BASARNAS).
  • Dive Operation Safety: PADI 5-Star or SSI Diamond rating, stringent compressor and nitrox membrane maintenance schedules, and a strict policy of small guide-to-diver ratios (max 1:4).

2. Service Excellence & Luxury Standards (Weight: 30%)

We cater to a discerning clientele who expect flawless service, even in the world’s most remote locations.

  • Staff-to-Guest Ratio: We require a ratio that ensures attentive, personalized service (typically 1:1 or higher).
  • Crew Professionalism & Training: Assessment of crew training, language skills, and background in high-end hospitality. Many of our partners’ key staff are alumni of top international hotel brands.
  • Quality of Amenities: Inspection of cabin comfort, ensuite facilities, culinary standards, and the overall condition and aesthetic of the vessel or resort.
  • Personalization: The ability to cater to bespoke requests, from specific dietary needs to private excursions and special celebrations.

3. Dive Expertise & Itinerary Quality (Weight: 20%)

A luxury vessel is meaningless without a world-class diving operation.

  • Guide Experience: Our partner guides are not just dive masters; they are seasoned Raja Ampat experts with thousands of logged dives in the area, deep knowledge of marine life, and a talent for finding rare critters.
  • Itinerary Design: We favor itineraries that are intelligently designed to avoid crowds, maximize unique encounters, and adapt to changing weather and sea conditions.
  • Equipment Quality: We inspect the condition and age of all rental equipment, ensuring it is from reputable brands and meticulously maintained.

4. Sustainability & Community Commitment (Weight: 10%)

We believe true luxury is responsible. We only partner with operators who share our commitment to protecting Raja Ampat.

  • Environmental Policies: Strict adherence to a zero single-use plastic policy, use of reef-safe sunscreens and cleaning products, and advanced waste management systems.
  • Conservation Contribution: Active support for and financial contribution to organizations like the Raja Ampat Marine Park Authority, Misool Foundation, or Conservation International.
  • Local Employment & Sourcing: A demonstrated commitment to hiring and training staff from local Papuan communities and sourcing produce from local markets where possible.

The Ongoing Audit Process

Our evaluation does not end after the first inspection. A member of our senior team personally conducts an annual, often unannounced, site visit to every single partner to ensure our standards are consistently maintained. We gather direct feedback from every client post-trip to monitor performance in real-time.
